Climate Specialists Welcome Royal Attendance

Sustainability leaders praised the royal's participation. One consultant commented that it would boost what is expected to be a difficult meeting, where global agreement on fresh targets for lowering climate pollutants is essential.

"Does the Prince's attendance at Cop a stunt? Certainly. But that doesn't mean it's a bad idea," the expert said. "The summit has historically been as much about what's termed 'optics' as it is about talks. The Prince's decision will probably encourage other officials to engage, and will attract global media."

"I suspect the Prince understands clearly that by attending, he'll bring countless of viewers to the summit. In an era when climate impacts are growing, but press attention is declining, anything that draws attention should be applauded."

Royal Presence at Past Cops

King Charles has participated in previous UN summits, but is not participate in Cop30.

Support from Climate Thinktanks

An expert from a climate research unit remarked: "Everyone must contribute – and every prominent figure like Prince William, there supporting advocate for the complex work that is required, is probably a beneficial move."

"The monarch] was in his previous role when he attended Cop26 and helped to galvanise discussions. I don't think it always needs the two royals to attend."

Prime Minister's Decision Remains Uncertain

The PM has yet to announce if he plans to join the conference, to which every world leaders are asked, with many set to attend. He was widely condemned by influential sustainability leaders for appearing to waver on the choice recently.

"International representatives must be in the summit location for Cop30. Participation is not optional, it is a demonstration of responsibility. This is the moment to establish stronger country pledges and the finance to deliver them, especially for adaptation" to the effects of the global warming.
"International observers is observing, and the future will note who participated."
